Journalism
I’m a campaigning journalist and broadcaster specialising in poverty, development and food policy around the world. I’ve won awards for investigative journalism, conflict reporting and food writing.
I have written for publications including Newsweek, The Guardian, The Observer, The Times, The Sunday Times, the Daily Mail and Prospect magazine.
In 2022 I presented and co-wrote the award-winning BBC Radio 4 series In Dark Corners, based on investigations into child abuse and cover-up in boarding schools, and my book Stiff Upper Lip: secrets crimes and the schooling of a ruling class.
Since publication of my not-for-profit book Blood Legacy: reckoning with a family’s story of slavery in 2021, I have tried to support movements seeking reparative justice and apology for the crimes of British transatlantic and plantation slavery.
I am a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
